Albq is just OK.

We made it into Albuquerque uneventfully. Upon exiting the 40 into "city traffic" the car didn't want to idle much. A 3/4 turn of the idle screw and all was well. Im guessing the elevation was f'n with the carburetor. We had a lunch break, which also served as a gas stop. It rained at the gas station, and threatened rain the rest of the way through NM on the 40. We got a brief shower but stayed mostly ahead of it. Our second gas stop netted 16.61 mpg which is likely due to the flat land we were driving. There is some nice rock formations including lava flows in the western end of NM as well as pretty red rock. Otherwise NM was just OK. We made it to Tucomcari, NM which is where we exited the interstate for the day. the fuel gauge read over 1/2 which would have given us 130 miles or so. When we stopped at Chevron in Dalhart TX, we got 15.5 gallons of fuel for our 16 gallon tank. Mike was nervous, as i was driving, but it all turned out fine. A quick check up and no leaking fluids, unless you count the overfilled gas from the filler neck grommet..

We rode from Phoenix to roughly Grants NM with the top down, in. Mostly sunny but with some cloud cover. The top went up mostly for shade, but we turned the ac on as it was nearly 100. The top stayed up for the rest of the trip, but i unzipped the window. The drive from Dalhart, TX was with the sun setting behind the clouds, 12.5 hours and 686 miles from when we started. We still intend to get to Dodge City and should make it before the tank runs dry and we both run out of steam. Im typing this from middle of nowhere TX, probably 20 miles from the OK state line. We'll cross into OK for 20 minutes or so, then a short drive to our nights destination. See ya in Kansas...

Somewhere NM
