We started the day with a fine breakfast in the hotel. Another night with limited sleep. I lost the snore monster, but i have to honestly say, i dont think he was the reason for the lack of sleep. Driving this car, and the attention that it brings is a total adrenaline rush. We can never stop for anything, and expect it to Be a short stop. On the way out of the hotel in the morning, with the car idling while i waited for Regina to walk out (think Lemans starts everywhere we go!!) there is a small crowd, the usual "nice car" or "oh thats YOUR car". Any respectable person can't just drive away. Besides, you don't drive a car like this, especially around the country, and not expect attention. There are a lot of details and at night my mind races with a wyriad of things spinning around.
When i finally turned in for the night last night it had been sprinkling rain. I can drive a dirty car for months. But water spots are a totally other matter. So out come the microfiber towels and my preferred insta shine product, and the window cleaner, and tire pressure gauge, and....ok ok. My OCD is showing. The drive out of downers grove was again, uneventful. I kind of like it that way. The goal for the day was the Rock and Roll hall of fame museum in Cleveland. Right on Lake Erie. I knew the day was going to be filled with interstate driving, and toll roads at that. We were on I80/i90 most all day. Id like to tell the fine people of IL, IN and OH that i am know a partial owner of the interstate. None of the toll workers found it funny either. I also decided the interstate system sucks. Can't turn around for cool photo ops, can't safely slam on the brakes when crossing state lines to take cool pictures with the car in them. The sights can be pretty at times, but lets face it, Boring! Here is how boring it really is. A few days ago it took us forever to get through Kansas. I thought it was a pretty drive (gonna catch hell from the Mrs. And others for using that phrase). Mike and i stopped a lot for pictures. And there was a lot to see. The highlight of the Interstate system today? We saw the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, going in the other direction, at 75 mph.
We opted for the top up today. While it is a great drive, I've still got 6 more days of driving, not including down time where i will be driving in town. I have 3 hats, 4 different kinds of sun lotion, after sun aloe skin care, 3 bandanas. What i dont want is melanoma, and hearing loss. I especially dont want that for Regina.
Somewhere along the great journey of Monday, we turned on the music. First song, "Just another day" by Oingo Boingo. Since it is Monday i could have been working. But instead I'm 2,000 miles+ away from work. And loving every minute of it. Now believe me i have to work for a living, and this trip is not a business expense and there are no sponsors. If i didnt get the time off for this trip, i would have quit. Im more into enjoying life, and all it has to offer. Today was day 6 of the journey. Just another day...
We got to the rock and roll hall of fame in the late afternoon. I had some special privileges set up by a dear friend and got a behind the scenes tour from " the man". I cant talk about details, but the museum is quite spectacular. Tons of memorabilia from outfits, to autographs, guitars, set lists, blah blah blah. Worth the trip to the city. And the building was designed by I. Ming Pei and is spectacular by itself. We stayed until closing time then spent some bonding time walking the lake walk, checking out the Cleveland browns stadium, and the science center. We decided to hit the road again. About an hour and a half more driving we rolled into Primanti brothers sandwhich shop in Grove City PA. Imagine a sammy with fries, coleslaw, steak, and cheese. Pretty darn tasty. We found a place to stay, hit the pool and the hot tub, and got to bed before the day changed.
Here are some pics of the day, and some from yesterday that were forwarded to me.
The rubber ducks crown showing as we cross into Ohio.
Crappy picture, but the twin scoops on the hood bearing down on the toll booths.
I only noticed the caption under the Greatful Dead sign at the Rock and Roll hall of fame museum. "the long strange trip".
The R&R museum on the lake.
I can almost smell Connecticut from here.
Maybe tomorrow i can get the car in a few pictures.
