East bound and down....

We cruised out of Phoenix at 6 am, top down. Headed the scenic way out of town through Payson and Heber, some some wildlife up in the twistie roads which we took at 70+ mph. Car running great, strong and cool. First gas stop was in Chambers, AZ where the 14 galls on fuel told me i had 4 gallons in the tank and averaged 16.19 mpg. Considering none of that 4 hours was on flat land quite astonishing. The rear gears are 2.76 and with the 833 o.d. Trans has a final drive ratio of 2.18. No tach in the car but i'm typing as Mike is rolling at 75, the car is probably turning about 1800 rpm. Interesting t downshift at 70 to pull hills, but the car doesn't seem to care. Our intended destination is Dodge City, KS. Long day but doable with two young drivers. Ok one young driver, and Mike. I can almost smell New Mexico from here. I hope it's the smell of breakfast, or lunch.

I'll post more at the next break, in 4 hours....
