Why does the corn in Iowa lean to the west?

...because Nebraska sucks!! Just kidding. Mike and i rolled into Hudson, Iowa last night at 10:30. After a high mph run in the dark. I've got to give credit to the high amp alternator, the Hella H4s. Absolutely no problems seeing in the pitch black. The drive through Kansas, into Nebraska, and into Iowa was uneventful, as you would want a drive in a 43 year old car. We caught a little construction in Nebraska that slowed our time a bit. Just as the day prior we split the driving every tankful of gas. The weather in kansas, nebraska, and some of Iowas was warm. We had the a/c pumpin most of the afternoon, with sweat dripping off the air difuser under the dash.

At one time late in the day we finally found a tractor trailer with a great center hub cover. We paced three sides of the truck at 75 mph to get some shots. Mike has some of the shots on his camera, so youll have to stay tuned for those.

When we finally got to our destination, i was met in the driveway by my wife Becky, my daughter regina, my father in law, and brother and sister in law who are in town from CA. They offered cold beer which was very welcome. Even the second one. And the third. We were thirsty. I tried to get another nights sleep, but did i mention that mike snores? A lot. Anyhow, i was able to get to the garage and give the car a good once over. 1600 miles, not a drip under the car. Only things that needed looking at were the drivers door stricker loosened and needed an adjustment, and still need to fix the back side window. My other brother in law and his work partner offered their shaded shop and a host of tools for me to give the car a good looking at. I couldnt find anything to do other than fix the door striker. Then i scraped the windshield with the razor blade and washed the car.

We took in a tour of the waterloo, John Deere tractor assembly facility. Amazing 1 hour tour. Imagine rows of 13+ litre diesel engines. Heaven. We stopped and had a Maid Rite sandwhich, as well as a pork tenderloin sandwhich. Something you have to do in Iowa. Once we got back home...or should i say home away from home, we decided to go out and find "a barn" and take some other Iowa esque pictures. The barn we were looking for was the quintesential midwest bard. Red, leaning, and not used for a generation or 3. The first one no one was home but it was a beaut. Since im not into trespassing, we left. Our second driveway netted us the home of my mother in laws classmate from years ago. Thank you Mrs. Jones. The hospitaility in Iowa extends pretty far. This woman was glad to talk to us for about 40 minutes while we shot pics in the setting sun. We left there to find corn. No small feat in Iowa. Which if you have been in the midwest you know as a joke. Finally, in the dozen plus years ive been coming back to my wife's hometown, we've driven past this fenced horse area. Today was the day to stop and take pictures.

Tonight is the firemans dance (small town reason to drink...i like it here), so thats on the agenda, then tomorrow morning, if i get to sleep, i need to be lined up for the parade at 7:30. Then im going to take a nap. Sunday sees me off to Chicagolandia, IL.

Enjoy the latest pictures. And finally, Happy Birthday to my father, who reads this from Sun City, AZ.
